Notes from King Chiikawa
Firefly squid (ホタルイカ) are a famous springtime specialty of Toyama Bay, where large numbers gather near the coast to spawn. Named for the blue light produced by their bioluminescent organs, the glowing squid have become one of Toyama's most distinctive marine symbols.
